A Partnership for Endurance Xcellence

Art King

Dr Art King is a veterinarian, an endurance veterinarian, an educator, and competitor.
Art is no stranger to anyone who’s ever done top-notch endurance rides.   His enthusiasm and easily approachable nature makes him a favorite at many rides, however, it may be possible some have not had that pleasure nor truly know the extent of Art’s dedication to the sport of distance riding.
Art is presently District Veterinarian for Fort Erie/Niagara Falls District; President of the Fort Erie SPCA and a Director of the Ontario SPCA.
He has over thirty years a veterinary judge for organizations throughout Canada and the USA; OCTRA, ECTRA, AERC and FEI Certified, judging over 20 events each year, including at the international level.
His credits include eight times Team Vet for the Canadian Endurance Team; ten years Endurance Discipline Chair. Currently, he is a member of Equine Canada (formerly Canadian Equine Federation - Director twelve years; Executive Committee six years), and serves on Equine Welfare Committee – Equine Canada, AERC Protest and Grievance Committee, OCTRA Judging Committee, Arabian Horse Assn. Distance Commission, Canadian Long Distance Riding Assn., Endurance Canada, and Ontario Equestrian Federation (Director ten years, President three).
In 2004 Art was inducted into Old Dominion Rides Inc. Hall of Fame.
He has assisted Sr. Mgr. Gayle Ecker, Equine Research Centre, Guelph, Ontario, with research into the effects of heat stress and electrolytes in the endurance horse.
And if that wasn’t enough he found time to amass over 400 miles of competition in Competitive, Endurance and Ride'n'Tie events in Canada and the USA.
