Cheryl has competed across the USA, with results including some wins and BCs. For years, her competition horse was Smoke Rise Strut, and most recently JS Comet (aka, O'Ryan). Not surprisingly, she has also honed her crewing skills, too, over the years. She has been one of the ride managers of the Biltmore Challenge ride, one of the largest in the eastern US. She is also an FEI ride steward. |

After leaving graduate school I realized a lifelong desire to take riding lessons and then own a horse. That has evolved from combined training into long distance trail riding -- aka, endurance -- largely through the influence of my husband, Stagg.
From a start with thoroughbreds from the track, I acquired my first 'real' endurance horse: Smoke Rise Strut, from Dinah Rojek's breeding program. Strut took me through 14 one-day 100s, and being second alternate to a Pan Am and first alternate to the World Endurance Championships. He taught me many things, including about equine sense of humor, equine curiousity, thumps, and the true joy of just being on trail day and night with a wonderful horse.
Since Strut, I have had a number of horses that were not as well suited for the sport so now have other careers. However, I now have a promising horse, O'Ryan (registered name: JS Comet), who completed his first with-me 100-mile ride at FITS 2011.
In between times, I am one of the ride management team for the Biltmore Challenge and an FEI steward.

- 2010 on JS Comet: Top 10 at Virginia Highlands 50; win and BC at Fall Fling 30; win and BC at Alabama Yellowhammer 50 followed by top 10 second day at Alabama Yellowhammer; top 10 and BC at Skymont 50.
- 2009 on JS Comet: Top 10 at Red Barn Run 50 FEI; top 10 at Kentucky Stampede 55, and BC; 11th place at Vermont Moonlight 75 FEI
- 2008 and earlier -- multiple top tens and completions
